Happy father’s day fellas, I hope it was an awesome one. I know it was, because each day our love ones are happy, have what they need, and safe –which is all we ask for– is an awesome day for us … and just for anyone that doesn’t know the importance of a father/father figure in their child’s life -a father can read their child’s emotions and respond with synchrony, provoking laughter more than the mother does. Some research finds that fathers are particularly adept at helping the child modulate their anger. Fathers encourage their infants to explore, which raises the child’s IQ, whereas mothers tend to be more cautious. They also encourage the child to think outside the box, ask questions, and take in more of their surroundings in a more profound way. These are all things the truly enhances the child’s social, emotional, and intellectual development. Children, both girls and boys, that do not have this interaction tend to be, as much as 70% more likely, violently aggressive, poor emotional regulators, lower self-esteem, and score far lower on the Kohlberg morality scale than those with positive male role models such as a father… I’ll stop there because I could write a good 200 pages on this topic, but if anyone has any specific questions please inbox me. Fatherless households has become such an epidemic in our community that I feel today should be about both celebration and education.
