Happy holiday wishes to my lovely sister Mary, who spent the night here on her way back up north. A quiet afternoon yesterday at Venice Beach, where it was chill enough that all the birds were sort of cuddled down onto the sand for warmth. This included tiny sandpipers about three-quarters the size of computer mice; they stood up, startled, when we got near them, but because (I guess) it was a little too chilly for them, they only stood on one foot, keeping the other leg completely tucked up into their body-feathers. (Like, ALL of them did this). When we got a little nearer, they all hopped frantically away on one leg. A quiet day today, of work, tea, and communing with the cats.
