Happy holidays, everyone! We hope that you all are enjoying your well-deserved break from classes. However, we would like to make everyone aware of some developments currently going on: Help raise funds for our organization by sending e-mails and letters to your friends and family. As an added incentive, those who send 10 e-mails and/or letters will receive an EWB sticker, sending 25 will win you a pair of sunglasses, and sending 35 gets you a fancy T-shirt! So lets do our best to get these e-mails and letters sent this holiday season! There is an example template in the recent e-mail that Kelsey sent out. If youd like it to be posted here, that can be done as well. Some information regarding the new project: The team of project managers met recently and decided on some deadlines for the all-important 501 & 502 reports: December 27: Send 502 draft to mentors January 7: Mentors send comments back to project managers January 10: Edited 502 sent back to mentors for final review January 18/February 15: Submit documents After discussion, the team decided that the 502 report will be submitted early next year, due to a number of reasons that were agreed upon by the team. If you have any specific questions about this, feel free to refer to the e-mail or contact Sarah ([email protected]). Lastly, if youre interested in furthering your involvement with Engineers Without Borders, there is a course thats offered in the Spring (CIEG 465) called, well, Engineers Without Borders! Through the course, you can receive credits and fulfill a technical elective by working on documents pertinent to our projects. The course description is as follows: We will learn of problems in the developing world that engineers can help solve. Well also consider sustainable, appropriate technologies that give the best long-term use in these communities. Seminar speakers will also provide information on how first-world citizens can travel and cross cultural barriers to work successfully with third-world communities and cultures. Well also consider community development projects that happen close to home in the developed world. Well learn about skills and approaches engineers can bring to the improvement of local communities in need. Sorry for the long post, but this is all such important stuff! Again, happy holidays to all! :) -Peace.Love.EWB.
