Happy posthumous birthday to Clyde Lemsley McPhatter from Durham, North Carolina, who gave us todays song of the day! Clyde was lead tenor with Billy Wards Dominoes as well as a founding member of the Drifters before setting out on his own and scoring big with this song, which peaked at number six in 1958. Sadly Clyde, depressed over poor management which left him broke, died from complications of heart, liver and kidney disease at the young age of 37. Clyde would have been 82 today.
