Happy to Resemble So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them. Genesis 1:27 I’m sure you’ve heard someone say, “You are the only Bible some people will ever read.” It is a fact that most people don’t take the time to read the Word, worship the Lord, and develop a relationship with Jesus Christ. Therefore, they have no way of knowing what God is like. Their only hope is in seeing Jesus through our lives. As believers, we must daily occupy ourselves with becoming like Jesus Christ. The popular adage, What would Jesus do? is exactly what I’m talking about. William Jay takes it one step further. We should keep His loving kindness before our eyes as the Scripture calls upon us to be followers of God as children. We are to be concerned to reverence Him, to be faithful as He is faithful, to be holy as He is holy—to be patient, and forgiving, and kind, like Him. Jesus instructs us, “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust” (Matthew 5:44,45). Therefore, be merciful, even as your Father which is in heaven is merciful. God is love. We cannot equal Him, but it is our happiness to resemble Him. He that dwells in love, dwells in God, and God in him.
