Happy weekend! Amputation or ambition? In that night express - TopicsExpress

Happy weekend! Amputation or ambition? In that night express train, speeding from one town to the national capital, travels this young girl in her late teens, a champion in many sports and going to the capital to participate in one competition. Hailing from a middle class family, she is a symbol of hard work and efforts. In the night, dacoits enter the compartment and loot the passengers. Our athlete girl resists the dacoits in holding on to her lifely possession of a small gold chain, and the dacoits push her out of the running train. She falls down and both her legs are severed by the wheels. She lies there screaming throughout the night being a remote part of the country. Next day morning some passers by move her to a town small hospital where she undergoes amputation without anaesthesia. She survives the ordeal and back home in shambles. She decides to fight back on life and with the support of her middle class parents, get the artificial foot in both legs, slowly walks and then decided to climb Mount Everest. After multiple attempts and near death many times, she becomes the first woman amputee to climb Mount Everest. I had the privilege of listening to this great young lady, Ms Arunima Sinha, this week. Familiar? Do we climb stairs, let alone mountains?
