One of the fires was on the Six Rivers National Forest, and the other was on the Shasta Trinity National Forest. Date Started: August 11, 2014 Size: 130,139 acres Containment: 72 percent Cost: $82.1M Structures Destroyed: 6 Structures Damaged: 2 Current Information: A Public Meeting will be held tonight, September 19, at the Department of Natural Resources building, at 39051 Hwy 96 in Orleans, commencing at 6:00 P.M. Several critical missions are planned today as firefighters diligently work to suppress the Happy Camp Complex. Type 1 Hotshot Crews will complete construction of fireline in the Big Ridge area north of Black Marble Mountain. Crews will also begin suppression repair activities on the Pacific Crest Trail and the Tyler Creek Trail. Aircraft will have a busy day moving crews and removing equipment from within the fire area. The northern area of the fire will continue to be patrolled and any remaining heat extinguished. Success in this area is due to the excellent handline construction and mop-up work conducted by the fire crews. Mop up is the term used to describe seeking out and extinguishing hotspots which may pose a threat to containment lines. Interior pockets of smoke will continue to be visible well within the fire’s interior. Firefighters will continue to focus on suppression repair throughout the remainder of the fire, mitigating damage to soil, water and roads damaged by fire suppression activity. Today, skies will be clear with northeast winds developing this afternoon. A drying trend is expected through the weekend with favorable wind conditions over most of the fire.
