Harambee Problem for Leaders One of the most difficult aspect of being a Kenyan leader and an MP is the Harambee problem. On average all of us have five or more Harambees to attend and send money to every weekend. While we understand the poverty and need I am not sure continuing to have MPs who do welfare is helping the situation either. While we appear to have high salaries the truth of the matter is that we are broke given the Harambees and other needs we have to service. The difficult part is that this is what the citizens use to judge an MP thus the high turn over of Mps especially first time Mps. I am of the view that we should pass a legislation stopping Mps and other political leaders from attending Harambees. The Harambee problem is said to be at the root of corruption - leaders steal from public coffers to donate in Harambees and become popular... lets also learn to skip some Harambees eg for lavish weddings and funerals. What say you?
