Harassment and Assaulting Press Freedom in Somaliland Journalism- Journalism is the investigation and reporting of events, issues and trends to a broad audience. Though there are many variations of journalism, the ideal is to inform the intended audience about topics ranging from government and business organizations to cultural aspects of society such as arts and entertainment but IT’S not uncommon in Somaliland for newspapers to be shut and their editors jailed Many independent journalists in Somaliland, wearied by harassment from Government and President SIIRANYOs regime, SIIRANYOs government, which is facing a deepening corruptions and political crisis , has been assaulting press freedom in Somaliland and stepped up its harassment of critical journalists ,money departure from the Journalists working for Somalilands independent newspapers fear that their newspapers will be forced to close down. Baligubadlemedia editor have been jailed and fined in Somaliland for allegedly libeling the countrys president. He was convicted of defamation and publishing false news about the health of the president While in CID headquarter, Mr. Ahemd Aadn Rooble was beaten by two police officers with sticks and the butt of a gun We are writing to express our extremely strong condemnation of the Somaliland government’s decision to jail editor of Baligubadlemedia Mr Ahmed Aadn Rooble We believe the government’s decision to arrest him violates the rights of freedom of speech and freedom of the press guaranteed by the Somaliland constitution, the United Nations’ International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The imprisonment of Mr Ahmed-Aadn Rooble and other journalists represents the criminalisation of investigation and criticism, which should be part and parcel of any democratic society. We call on the Somaliland government to unconditionally release Mr Ahmed Aadn Rooble and other journalists unjustly detained; to ensure that he and others are treated humanely; to halt the use of anti-terrorism laws to prosecute journalists; and to fully defend the rights of the press outlined by Ethiopia’s constitution and international agreements. we are sending this statement to the authorities of the African Union – including the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, We wish to draw their attention to the fact that the conduct of the Somaliland Government is in conflict with the protocols of the African Union, the African Union Charter, and the guarantees of freedom of expression protected under various international human rights instruments including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
