Hard to believe that on this day last year we were under a thick blanket of snow. And out of that snowstorm came a phone call to Cats Protection. A cat had been found collapsed, unconscious in a snow drift. Could I pick her up and rush her to the vet? I got her there as quick as I could through the driving snow, fully expecting the vet to put this old girl to sleep or at least keep her in, but no, the vet discharged her into my care. Then developed a bizarre situation - there were no Cats Protection pens or fosterers available, so I had no choice but to take this tiny cat home. Then things got weirder - I couldnt foster her for CP because I didnt meet the criteria. So I would have to keep her - oh, but I couldnt adopt her from CP because I wouldnt pass a home-check due to the number of cats I had. So what to do? I just had to keep her and no-one say anything! And what a lovely little thing she was; thin as a rake and so dainty, with such a funny little walk! I called her Belle and my vet described her as Absolutely ancient - 18 or more. She only lived four months before succumbing to age and the toll her experience, lost in the snow, took on her. How did she come to be wandering in such foul weather? Well never know that, but Im so pleased I had that four brief months with Belle. I wouldnt have missed a minute of it for the world. Sometimes angels in fur are sent from nowhere to light up our lives, and thats just what Belle did, for much too short a time. Miss you, furry girl.
