Hardware design engineer co-founder at BeginGreen (with equity stake) BeginGreen, an internationally oriented startup with a core team in Berlin, is looking for a hardware design engineer to join the team and help bring indoor gardening to the common kitchen. Nevertheless, while these developments would surely change the urban environment for the better, such changes require large financial commitments, years of planning or a high degree of initiative and organisation on the side of ambitious communities. However, BeginGreen believes that an innovative business model based on a hydroponic product is the kind of innovation that would be the base of sustainable food production. Thus, our goal is to create a beautiful indoor hydroponic planter suitable for vegetable production that fits the modern busy lifestyle. Your profile: You have a Bachelors of Science in Engineering You have extensive experience in the design and/or production of electronics hardware systems You have experience modeling with 3D CAD software (for example – NX/Unigraphics, Catia, Solidworks) You have some experience designing tooling in a manufacturing environment. You’re capable of solving complex problems with no supervision on schedule as an individual or as a member of an integrated team You’re at home in fast-paced iterative design environments You are motivated by the goal of building innovative products that contribute towards food security and sustainable cities. You have an entrepreneurial spirit and you feel at home in a startup environment. You are comfortable speaking English and you’d enjoy a few travelling opportunities. Experience with aeroponics or agriculture is a plus. You are comfortable and familiar with lean prototyping (for example with Arduino) Your role: You will be our engineering expert and will help us bring our vision to life You will help develop the BeginGreen planter with us You will help us bring this product from the hardware design phase into the manufacturing phase You will participate in design reviews acting as an expert in design for feasibilty, design for manufacturability, yield improvements, supplier capabilities assessments, quality control, etc. You will update designs when necessary in response to manufacturing issues, parts obsolescence, and most importantly, user feedback. You will assist in preparing engineering documentation necessary for the transition from development to production including schematic diagrams, bills of materials, suitable alternate parts lists, mechanical drawings, assembly procedures, and test procedures.
