Hariri: Using borders as a launching pad to deliver messages is a new adventure and a step into the unknown Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri issued the following statement: Is it right to remain silent and ignore the incidents that took place in the town of Brital, or the bombing that targeted an Israeli patrol in Shebaa Farms, under the pretext of not disturbing the atmosphere, and expressing solidarity with any act against terrorism and the Israeli enemy? And should all Lebanese validate all the actions of Hezbollah and justify its policies? It is regrettable that some perceive the risks in this manner, and continue to bury their heads in the sand and acknowledge Hezbollah’s exclusive rights to establish camps and fight wars, independently from the State, its government and army. The insistence to pursue these options, whether they are random or based on external agendas, doesn’t only hinder national efforts to fight terrorism and extremism, but also raises the issue of dissenting from the national consensus and dealing with the executive and legislative authorities as if they did not exist. How can the issue of negotiating, or agreeing on an exchange, in order to liberate the kidnapped Lebanese soldiers, require a consensus in the government, when a political group represented in the government behaves in issues of war and peace as it wishes or as its regional allies wish, without any consideration for the consensus of the ministers, the State or its legal institutions, and turns the whole Cabinet, just as it did with the national dialogue participants, into a false witness on security and military policies that the Cabinet is not responsible of managing. At this sensitive stage of our national life, we do not look for a gap from here and a mistake from there, to build a political stance and criticize the performance of any party or group. We honestly believe that Lebanon needs policies that gather, not separate. It also needs to unify efforts, in the framework of the State and its institutions, in order to protect Lebanon from the risks of terrorism. However, this will not succeed in light of the persistence to make the narrow interests of parties prevail over the national interest, and the deliberate dissent from national consensus, in addition to luring the army and the official military forces into security and combat missions, determined by the operating rooms of Hezbollah. The essence of national partnership requires to call again for a national awakening that stops implicating Lebanon in the wars of others on our territory or in wars on others’ territory. And this awakening can only be possible if everyone participates, starting with Hezbollah, that dissents from the bases of national consensus and wants others to keep up with him in covering up this dissent and legitimating it as a fait accompli. Using borders as a launching pad to deliver security and military messages in several directions, is a new adventure and a step into the unknown that does not give Lebanon any additional source of power. Time has come to comprehend the risks arising from this and exert efforts in all directions to protect the State from total vacuum, and reach an agreement immediately to end the presidential vacancy and establish a new stage of national cohesion that renews the faith of the Lebanese in the State and the monopoly of power by its legitimate institutions. Otherwise we will remain hostages of a vicious circle that rotates in the orbit of division, and allow the storm to hit our country from all directions.
