Harley - 9 yr old grade quarter horse gelding - approx 15 hands. Located in Haslet, Texas. Please read ad in its entirety! This boy was a kill buy owned horse sold to ride, not for meat; we saw him being ridden so we decided to bring him home. Due to where he had come from, we knew there was a very good chance he had lived a mistreated life..On the first day at our home, I could not catch him in the pasture (even though he would take food from me, he would bolt the other way if I tried to get a halter on him). I decided to leave him alone until the next day and was then able to catch him with feed. I slowly started trying to build trust. He was very skittish of any quick hand movements around his face (a fairly strong indication to me that he had been beaten); however, after 15 minutes of a calming voice, and gentle hands, he let me throw a tarp over his head and put a Santa hat on his ears...I knew this boy wasnt bad, he just needed patience and understanding. So, after the tarp, he let me throw a saddle on his back, and then we lunged (ok..he lunged and I held the line...to my suprise, he did beautifully). I also put my weight in the saddle, sat on him for a minute and got off..I figured it was enough for one day..Day 2, we hauled to the local riding arena. He loaded in the trailer beautifully by the way..at the arena, I saddled and took him to the round pen. I asked my best friend if she had her phone handy to call 911...lol..but again, to my amazement, this guy was awesome! As a previous barrel racer, I just loved his neck reining ability and his turns...My best friend ridesEnglish and she loved the way he rode too..so rather than risk Harley going back to the kill buyer, we paid his bail (which was set much higher than normal but this horse deserved to get away from those guys), hoping to keep him for awhile....but with winter coming, I dont think it is the best of ideas and I would rather put extra profit that he brings to buying extra winter blankets and supplies for the other horses we are bringing in...so, Harley is up for sale, but Please read the following very carefully: 1.) Although he has appeared to be pretty sound and solid for us, we have not vet checked him and do not guarantee anything. Any vet checks are welcome at buyers expense. He has a current Coggins. 2.) As I said, he is somewhat skittish, especially if you come at his face too quickly. It is my belief he has been hit and mistreated. That being said, this horse responded very well to love, kindness and patience. This horse WILL NOT be sold to a home that plans to cowboy him, beat on him, or treat him roughly. He has already been through too much. 3.) This horse has a lot of try and heart and I believe in the right hands he will do wonderfully 4.) This horse will be sold where we retain the first right of buyback. There will be a sales contract that includes this. If at any time, you no longer wish to own him (although I am hoping he goes to a forever home), you must contact me and give me the first option to buy him back or at least help you place him in another home. The reason for this is that we DO NOT want this horse to end up back in the hands of a kill buyer or on a truck bound for Mexico. 5.) Although it is my opinion that this horse could be a good little barrel/pole or play day horse, based on what he seems to know, I will not guarantee anything on what kind of horse he will make or what discipline he will excel in. 6.) Harley is NOT a childs horse, a babysitter or a first horse. He will need to be with an intermediate - experienced rider that understands gentle methods. I will continue to ride him, and try him out with barrels/poles as well as work on desensitization. This is such a good horse. I truly want to see him go to the perfect home. Harley is for sale for $2500 obo. I am not in a huge rush as I will ensure he finds the right home before I let him go. We will try to get more videos this week on the pattern once it warms up a bit
