Harold Knowles was also tired of the conditions he faced due to segregation. He attended Old Lincoln High School which did not receive the separate but equal treatment. Instead, students used hand-me-down books from Leon and other supplies. Knowles even remembered lining up in his science classroom to look through the only microscope. Eventually, he decided to stand up for what was right and take the matter into his own hands. While Prince Edward County African American students led a strike, Harold Knowles became the one of the first eight students to integrate Leon County Schools. He entered Leon High School in 1963. - from They Led The Way Exhibit #FLCivilRights #CivilRightsAct50 #BrownvsBoardofEducation #MuseumMonday
