HarperCollins Publishers is seeking aSenior Project Manager who will be responsible for managing complex,multi-dimensional projects that may be global in scope. The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for managing cross-functional and cross-organizational teams to define, develop and implement projects which will increase efficiencies, improve customer satisfaction, and drive revenue gains. They will serve as a trusted advisor to key business partners, and represent users and customers in thought and interaction. Responsibilities: • Manage multiple, complex, large-scale projects concurrently or multiple projects under a single program structure o Create and maintain project schedules by developing project plans, estimating time requirements, allocating resources, establishing deadlines, monitoring milestone completion, tracking all phases of the project lifecycle, providing timely reporting of issues that impact project progress, coordinating actions, and resolving conflicts • Manage intra-organizational, cross-functional international teams o Mentoring of project teams in the HarperCollins PMO methodology o Supervise and mentor assigned project managers for both project and career growth, provide performance management feedback and make staff development recommendations • Manage complex projects to major milestones; Develop project justification proposals, business cases and return on investment estimates; obtain executive approval and funding o Develop and execute resource management plans o Lead executive monthly project reviews o Deliver timely project health and performance dashboards o Develop and maintain key project governance documentation to ensure the proper amount of structure is applied to enable project success o Manage change; Implement new ideas effectively within the HarperCollins culture. Influence decisions and change management through collaboration, leadership and a customer-focused approach o Facilitate project-related testing, roll-out, and post-mortem work. o Provide timely updates and elevate critical risks to project, management and senior-executive teams o Measure and track results; Achieve business benefit • In-depth knowledge of portfolio, business functions and all relevant stakeholders to successfully drive decisions and recommendations regarding the IT portfolio • Perform all project management standard tasks following HarperCollins PMO methodologies while utilizing approved tools, dashboards and templates: o Risk assessment and management o Issue management o Project planning and management o Resource scheduling o Communication planning o Budget management o Roles and Responsibilities and Stakeholder Analysis o Project charter and scope management o Project closure activities o Project status reporting and meetings • Work as integral part of the HarperCollins Project Management Office to develop and implement best practice project management governance and processes, management tools and techniques.This should include excellent knowledge on the project management lifecycle and standard project management templates. Qualifications, Knowledge and Competencies: • BA/BS with minimum of 7-10 years cross-functional, cross-disciplinary IT project experience with an in-depth understanding of all components of project management • Experience with both waterfall and agile methodologies and maintains awareness of new and emerging technologies • Ability to identify and establish priorities, work independently, drive results through informal authority • Self-starter and effective facilitator who is comfortable interacting and presenting to senior management • Must be able to manage a virtual team with team members in multiple geographic regions and time zones • Strong planning and organizational skills (must be able to manage multiple deliverables/projects and programs concurrently and keep to deadlines) • Extensive knowledge and expertise in the use of project management methodologies and tools such as those defined by Project Management Institute (PMI) and Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), • Ability to work independently • Proven experience as a change agent having effectively implemented change in large cross functional organization. • Knowledge of industry best practices, third-party providers, and technologies • Strong negotiation and influencing skills • Ability to translate technical concepts into non-technical terms • Strong customer relationship skills • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Strong leadership and motivational skills to direct the project team effectively • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills • PMP certification desired • Prior consulting experience with top tier consulting group preferred • Publishing experience desired
