Harry Hodgman Born 12th August 1891 Brighton Tasmania to Thomas Christopher and Robina Francis Hodgman (nee Gunn) who enlisted Melbourne and embarked for overseas with F Company from Melbourne on 21 October 1914 aboard HMAT Orvieto. He landed at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915 and was shot by a sniper later that same day. Pte Hodgman is buried in Lone Pine Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey. His brother Alan Gunn Hodgman (No 4325) was killed in action 7th June 1917 and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium. Lance Corporal Harry Hodgman who was killed on Gallipoli was born at “Maidon-Erlegh” in the Brighton district August 1891; he was the third son of Mr T C Hodgman of Roberts and Co and grandson of William Gunn of “Inbercarron”. He matriculated from Friends High School and entered the office of the New Zealand SNS Company where he rose to the position of confidential clerk to the manager (Hobart) and went with Mr Val Johnson to Melbourne. He left this company to take up a more lucrative position in Chartris Ltd and was there until he joined the First Expeditionary Force and left in October last with the 5th Battalion.
