Harry S. Truman: Given the choice between a Republican and someone who acts like a Republican, people will vote for the real Republican all the time. WHY do Democrats think they can get elected saying they want to Compromise with the most unpopular party in the history of politics? Why would anyone think the base of the Democratic Party will be energized to vote for GOP Lite, given the unprecedented unpopularity of the GOP? Are these people Idiots? Third Way Wall Street friendly DINOs may like the idea of Democrats always meeting the GOP halfway in order to get something done, but thats because they are better suited to voting for Republicans. If Democrats wont present a real alternative to the GOP, they give the electorate no reason to vote for them. People like Allison Lundergan Grimes and Mary Landrieu would rather pretend ACA doesnt exist than talk about its benefits. Thats cowardice, not leadership. The base wants people in office who will fight for progressive ideals. Instead of talking about the Progressive Caucus Budget, Democrats running in the midterms ignore it. Whats even worse, the official position of the party leadership is to ignore the largest caucus in the Democratic Party, the progressive caucus and its budget, for fear of offending blue dog DLC Third Way types like the Clintons. The Paul Ryan budget is horrible, do they really want candidates to run for office saying they will compromise with it in order to get something done? Its a recipe for disaster. When Democrats refuse to promote themselves as a real alternative to the GOP, they cant blame voters for thinking they are GOP Lite. And as Truman said, when Democrats run as GOP Lite, they lose.
