Harry, a year and a half old, busy about the house. Transcription from brief tape. Late summer. La Celle St. Cloud. Harry and Ann carrying on parallel activities, both conversing, Ann newscasting. Harry is pulling his little cart with his Winnie the Pooh set in it. And he’s chomping on a plastic tube. H: (sing song) Dah, doe. Dah, Dah! Eeeummmmm Eeeeeummm. He’s pulling it not using the wheels (I must have meant cord) but by its sides…. He has just adjourned to the living room. H: Ehh, ehh, uehh, Hm. Hm, Hm, Hm hm. Ah ee uh. Noh nuh uhh. Nun. Ah nuh. Nuh wuh ah, Ahhh, wooh wooh ahhhhhh, Ahh, Ahh. Ahhheee ohh. Wuuh. Ah. Mmmm ahhh. Noh nuh. Uhhh nah. Eh. Nuh nuh. Noh noh! Harry is walking around with a pair of clean shorts which I tried to put away. He took them out of the drawer and has been walking around with them on his head, putting them on his arms, trying to drape them over the calendar. He’s not cooperating this evening, but in general Harry’s been having a very nice time with the shorts. H: Uh, buh deht. A: “Harry, don’t, don’t lean on Towser’s back like that. That hurts Towser. H: Ah dee ah uh. Ah eee ooo ooo. A: You don’t believe me but it does.” Laughing sounds from Harry. H: Ahh huh. Towser is standing by the door. It’s time for Georges to come home and Georges is going to be late tonight. H: Eh ee uh eh. Harry has gone into the bedroom. A: “Look at you.” …(Hes) Trying to get that pair of shorts on his head… “You’re going to succeed in a minute, Harry.” ...Now he’s trying to drape the shorts on Towser. H: “Ehuh heh hee. Uh. Hah. Eee huh. To Towser: Bie dow!” Sounds of Ann setting the kitchen table. A: “Maybe Towser doesn’t like that. (Harry would straddle Towser’s back and sit on him as if he were a pony. Excellent Towser, a small, black, half-beagle, half-cocker spaniel mix, would let Harry sit a brief while, then calmly sit down and Harry would slide off onto his bottom. Harry would chortle.) H: (Busy in kitchen.) Ehh, uh, Noh uh. Uh uh.” Sounds of kitchen stool being dragged across floor by Harry. A: “Oops! ‘Scuse me. I didn’t see you behind me. Oh, Harry.” Ann putting things on table. H: “Doo mee? Aight? Dee. He has discarded the shorts in favor of the dictionary …... which he’s beating, vigorously. H: Happy sounds: “Eee. Uh!”. - Ann, Harry’s Mom, going through memorabilia.
