Harrys picks 063014 I made a few good selections on Sundays sheet- over at Arlington where Ive been suffering the death of 1000 cuts one finally came to- Davids Lucky Lady paid $21.20 for win- a 6yo mare by English derby winner North Light- she is a ff 16-A individual with a lovely dosage profile of >6-6-18-4-2 – since her branch of the 16-a troop is that dating back to monumental broodmare Plucky Liege- a person could assume that Davids Lucky lady has it in her to launch a decent foal someday if she can be bred- At Churchill Downs Hunting Hill mad me look smart by cashing in at $40.80- and she is another female (I dont seem to have muck luck with males for the most part) she stems from the bright Chevalon (1963) strand of ff 1-c and her sire Hard Spun was a front running dandy back a few years ago- she was bred and perhaps still owned by the Humphreys of Kentucky- prairie Meadows I went bonkers (in a good way) coming up with a 3 musketeers- in the 2 Strike A Spider came in at $6.00 to win and in the 5th Pegasus Crown was a $35.00 winner followed by Royal Dehere 18.40 for win for rave 6! Strike A Spider traces back to Hermits noble daughter the Apple (1886) from the powerful 9-F female tribe- as for Pegasus Crown he to was a Plucky Liege 16-A tribesman! The last of the Prairie bombshells was Royal Dehere whose 9th dam Frizette was eaten by starving soldiers or French peasants in World War One- but not before she had foaled some of the best broodmare lines in the stud book (13-C)- but my favorite selection of the day had to be at Thistledown in their J. William P. Stakes where after much deliberation I came up with Deniros Saint who paid a whopping $37.20 for the silverware and black type- naturally a filly by seldom Saints N Sinners (by Saint Ballado) who never won a race! She is inbred to hero Hail To Reason, which to my way of thinking is always a good place to go when practicing doubling up on a particular line- the ff are 12-B a tributary tracing back to awesome Amerigos daughter Boiseana- since a selecting a stakes winner is always a happy occasion it may be fun to hypothetically mate Deniros Saint with our current champion de Kentucky derby California Chrome- if we look at the potential GSV ranking we might become a bit downcast >47.01 a rank worthy of a food stamp card- but the 3rd generation sire step-ladder is an interesting combo of >Pulpit>Belong To Me>Saint Ballado>De Niro- I was a fan of both De Niro the actor- I remember cutting school to see his early flick directed by young Brian De Palma and De Niro the horse a handsome creature out of champion mare Waya- De Niro won but twice but has had some triumphs as a sire- his dosage profile of 10-3-6-1-2 may help explain it- De Niro was sired by outstanding race horse and sire Gulch. Lastly the WBH9GCF for the hypothetical match of California Chrome x Deniros Saint is “ a fantastic “39” which is just how old Jack Benny was on his last birthday!
