Ol’ Fashion Gal, was a impressive winner of the Jimmy Durante Stakes, on the western turf in recent days- her pedigree line is Sky Mesa x Little Hussy x Horse Chestnut, the latter a son of the Sadler’s Wells troop of sires- while Sky Mesa was by Pulpit, a son of the line of triple crown hero Seattle Slew, the latter a horse of immense influence in modern pedigree pictures- Sky Mesa, a lightly raced (injury) 750K yearling buy has been enigmatic as a stallion and I’d rule him as a “pass” when shopping for mares by him- somehow his qualities have for the most part not materialized in his offspring, but then again we are talking about his graded stakes winning ingénue Ol’ Fashion Gal! The dam in this horse opera Little Hussy, is a female family 22-B -a competitive bunch these days- and it should not be relegated to the circular file that Sky Mesa is a 1-x La Troienne stallion- her dosage profile reads >10-5-13-2-0 healthy enough and she presents with a index of 2.53- she has as a ancestress Lianga, a very popular “tube” for cultivating into by ill-starred Dancer’s Image, she was the champion sprinter of France in her day- California Chrome x Ol’ Fashion Gal x Sky Mesa- brings forth a hypothetical foal sporting a WBH9GCF of an astounding “41” these numbers would suggest California Chrome, will be the second coming of Bull Lea!
