Hart Drama Club Presents “Gossamer” Oct. 25th and 26th. Hart/Millennium gym, 7:30 pm, tickets $5 (available at the door). The James Hart Drama club takes on the serious issue of domestic violence in its annual fall play, “Gossamer.” Adapted for the stage by Newberry Medal-winning childrens author Lois Lowry from her own novel for young readers, Gossamer is a sweet and hopeful story, yet addresses the serious issue of domestic violence. Lowrys play presents two parallel story lines, both of which depict a young character and their strong, experienced mentor. In one story line, a young dream giver, a tiny creature whose job it is to collect memories of humans and transform them into restorative, comforting dreams, is learning the craft. The other story line takes place in the real world of a child abuse victim and the elderly foster mother who takes him in. The brief depictions of domestic violence within the play may disturb younger children. Therefore, District 153 is recommending the play only for children over the age of eight and encourages all students to be accompanied by a parent to the production.
