Harvard Medical School has announced it will terminate the contract for 31 janitors this September due to a “changing business model.” As a school that benefits from public money because of its tax-exempt status, whose annual endowment income exceeds $160 million, and whose mission is “To create and nurture a diverse community of the best people committed to leadership in alleviating human suffering caused by disease,” it is misguided to trim the budget on the backs of these workers.
