Has SCA become the only advocate who expects cyclists to ride - TopicsExpress

Has SCA become the only advocate who expects cyclists to ride sensibly in 2014? It seems that we spark a witch hunt whenever we acknowledge that its not just motorists who disregard the road rules. Cyclists are not beyond reproach and a minority steadfastly refuse to ride legally while simultainiously expecting that motorists obey every single road rule, every single time. Wed like to think that bad riding doesnt happen, but we arent about to bury our heads and convince ourselves that it doesnt. Safe cycling isnt simply about telling motorists not to hit us. While we arent about to run to the media and say those bloody cyclists, we arent afraid of asking riders to do the right thing. Rider on the cycling equivalent of a mechanics trolley (Id love to own one btw) slips by other road users with no way of being result seen by them, other road users and SCA at fault for mentioning the downsides. Riders blow through a red light rather than stop at an intersection that poses little risk to them in stopping, other road users and SCA at fault for mentioning the downsides. Videos and accounts (take your pick) of cyclists riding three and four abreast with no intention of either overtaking or dropping back to allow others to overtake including fellow riders, other road users - including the cyclists inconvenienced - and SCA at fault for mentioning the downsides. None of us are robots and mistakes are a part if the human condition, no one here is arguing that. What we do ask is that if the vocal minority within any road user group want allowances to be made for them, they must be prepared to bend a little. We expect it and it sits fine with us. The vast majority of all road users are willing to put their best foot forward, the rest could be forgiven for being focused on holding everybody back.
