Has anybody read anything about white men passing for black in 1800s? Aunt Carrie told me that was pretty much what happened on my paternal grandmothers side of the family in Louisiana. My paternal grandmothers maternal grandfather was white and married a black woman who was my 2nd Great Grandmother after the time of the Civil War and lied that he was black on Census records. That certainly makes genealogy difficult. I believe that my 2nd Great Grandfather was one of Benjamin Cross and Anastasie Bourgeois two oldest sons. I put unknown black woman for his mother in my family tree. Now I have to change it to unknown white woman. Not all European in African-American bloodlines came from slavery and rape. Racial relations in Louisiana has been very complex.
