Has anyone else noticed that everything associated with astro seems to be more complicated than you first think? I decided to make a start on my permanent pier today, which marks the start of the long term home obsy build project. Im positioning it where I normally set up in my garden, on an old tired patio next to what was once a swimming pool that the prior house owners turned into a pond / nature reserve(!). What could be simpler? Lift a few paving slabs, dig through a few inches of levelling sand and dig through soil underneath? .....but then the astro gremlins raise their heads....... The slabs come up easy enough, but so much for the few inches of sand before I hit soft soil to dig through. Ive had about 6 inches of concrete to chisel my way through, then the next 18 has been large hardcore (some whole house bricks!). Then I started getting lots of water, before I eventually hit a solid flat bottom about 55cm down. Ive uncovered a hidden swimming pool! No seriously, I have!! I have the side wall, complete with tiles running just off centre of my intended hole/trench. Not too sure what my next steps will be, either take down the side wall of the unearthed pool and carry on as normal with my permanent pier base plans, or leave the pool side wall and just extend my hole in other directions, or maybe just keep digging out the in fill and follow the wall of the pool to find out how big it is! Either way, its not proving as easy and straight forward as I hoped, but hey, thats astro for you! Hope you are having a better Saturday than me ;-)
