Has anyone noticed that your Orange data is being used up alot faster these days? Back in October, I could go 1 month on 2GB. Now, I am lucky if it lasts me 14 days. Also, I noticed that Orange took money out of my account balance yesterday even though I was on a monthly plan. no bueno! on Wednesday Like Comment 10 people like this. Sven Krause Same same here, data has been used much faster than usual. Not good, am switching to Smile soon. 9 January at 07:28 · Like · 1 Noreen Viera yep i noticed twice and had to quit 9 January at 07:29 via mobile · Like · 1 Alexa Lexie Yes orange data is used up alot faster but the trick is to use the mobile internet option.load 500shs which is 25mb and when it is used up load again.otherwise loading more than 25mb is an excuse for them to cheat you. 9 January at 07:50 via mobile · Like Noreen Viera i tried that Alexa and my airtime was chewed after seconds got so pissed 9 January at 07:56 via mobile · Like Noreen Viera i think ugandan networks are so poor with internet services 9 January at 07:58 via mobile · Like Laureene Reeves Ndagire Yes! In Nairobi my 100MBs on orange last me more for everyday mobile use, and in uganda I am lucky if it goes past 2days!! Its definitely being used up faster 9 January at 08:02 via mobile · Like Samuel Art Uganda you will find out that even if u dont use internet but have the internet bundle collapsing its self 9 January at 08:05 via mobile · Like Lilli Pilli Switch to Smile !!! So happy since i left orange. The wifi system is fantastic 9 January at 08:17 via mobile · Like Jocelyn Musiimenta Before you quit, please ascertain that you are aware of the new pricing system and the relevant bundles so as not to be taken advantage of. These new prices were effective late November, if you are still paying old prices then that is the problem. You can visit orange.co.ug or have a quick look below. Go for the unlimited internet package. It cost 300 000UGX per month. It is not the fastest internet, but the good thing about it is that it never runs out. 9 January at 08:25 · Like · 2 Sven Krause Well, if Orange communicates changes poorly or not at all they should hire a professional communication person. Or live with people dropping them and changing to other companies. Will be Smile very soon. 9 January at 08:25 · Like · 1 Jonothan Hen-Boisen Sven Krause, Smile is excellent! Just be careful as they also sometimes have the same issue of data disappearing. I load 20GB every month and without even being home, I am lucky if it lasts 2 weeks. 9 January at 08:28 · Like · 1 Sven Krause I know, my housemate had the same. He then changed the password and the data theft or whatever it is stopped. 9 January at 08:38 · Like Jonothan Hen-Boisen My neighbours seem to be smarter lol. Will be taking that up with the for sure. 9 January at 10:15 · Like Jonothan Hen-Boisen I would also question that. It is not legal to do that. BUT, you must just read the T&Cs. I know that a friend in South Africa went over his bundle and they deducted the money from his bank account. It was also a prepaid account. 9 January at 10:19 · Like Shay Martin I noticed that with MTN. 9 January at 10:45 via mobile · Like Kyle Spencer Oranges new prices are bullshit and good cause to leave their network. Orange owns OpenTransit and is a TEAMS partner. They have access to perhaps the cheapest wholesale bandwidth in Uganda. I am leaving their network ASAP. 9 January at 14:46 via mobile · Edited · Like · 2 Kate Cheeseman we were ome for cmas and I put some anti virus on my comp, when we came back we loaded 5 gbs onto my orange wifi, it lasted 2 days. they blamed the anti virus software so I switched it off but even still we used 0.5gbs in an evening, something is not right! 9 January at 15:15 · Like Elliott Muschamp Oranges prices are much cheaper now though. Last year I was paying 20,800 a gig and now im paying 15,000. 9 January at 15:55 · Like Kyle Spencer 1GB is now 35,000. 9 January at 16:34 via mobile · Like Elliott Muschamp bundle 9 January at 17:24 · Like Mike Tyrrell yes...I complained direct to the orange counter about the data a few times last year and early this year and always they gave me a number to complain to. 9 January at 17:50 · Like Jille Treffers have you not switched to 4g without knowing? Faster internet usually means using it up more quickly. 9 January at 18:51 · Like Elk Arne Clausen The Orange effort of chewing through our internet allowances (3G) has been in effect since early 2013. I noticed an increase in downloads - even with no particular online site running - of about 30% by comparison to my general usage previously. Filed official complaints with Orange about that pretty much instantly, to no effect. The only way we can get to these guys is to file the local equivalent of a Class Action suit with the UCC (Uganda Communications Commission). But since all telecoms here are pretty much the same in this regard... where would that be going? Also noticed an increase in hacks into my Orange internet modems with download time of up to 100 GB vanishing within minutes. Changing passwords did not rectify these either... 2 hours ago · Edited · Like Shuz Martin MTN is worse..internet bundles just vanish in seconds. 9 January at 20:08 via mobile · Like Elk Arne Clausen In my opinion, this is pretty much the latest scam in Uganda since there is no accountability - unlike post paid telephony where they have to sent you a statement of activity/ time and general usage. I actually demanded a statement of my internet use from Orange - which they sent me eventually - which clearly shows doctored entries as to my usage. These guys are unstoppable... 9 January at 20:37 · Like Shuz Martin the World is Just a Big CRIMESCENE.. 9 January at 20:45 via mobile · Like · 2 Sven Krause The degree of criminal energy is amazing... Maybe this is a scam 3 hours ago via mobile · Like Parveen Gupta Use Suretel 20k imonth unlimited 3 hours ago · Like Elk Arne Clausen This is a scam full stop. Orange did not even bother to explain it to me other than referring me back and forth. And there is no way they can explain a minimum 30 - 50% increase in internet download time from one month to the next without me changing my surfing habits. They didnt even bother to justify this inconsistency even after filing half a dozen complaints. Yesterday I had another 50 MB vanish in less than 30 seconds. I was actually watching the Internet Everywhere counter chewing through it. I also think these are not hacks as it takes a fair amount of inside knowledge to pull that off. In my opinion, these deductions are pre-programmed protocols running straight off the Orange servers. Now Orange posted a comment up in this thread without addressing the core complaint even here. I guess they know why... about an hour ago via mobile · Edited · Like Meg Hilbert Jaquay Yes, I also have been just tracking Internet Everywhere and it is sucking up data without me doing anything else. I filed my complaint friday. Sure it will go nowhere. 2 hours ago · Like · 1 Jonothan Hen-Boisen Just make absolutely sure before you complain that you dont have apps set to update automatically. They usually do that in the background and you wont notice. Anti Virus software does automatic updates as well. Check for Dropbox too as it is a default setting to sync upon computer start. 2 hours ago via mobile · Like Elk Arne Clausen All switched off or de-installed the first time this happened. And it usually takes a little longer than just a few seconds to update eg Dropbox? 2 hours ago via mobile · Like Jonothan Hen-Boisen Depends on the size of your files in the sync folder. 2 hours ago via mobile · Like Elk Arne Clausen Dropbox updates only if and as new files are added. And once it is switched off, it doesnt do a thing... In any case, any form of automated background activity does not explain or justify a 30 to 50% increase in internet download time on the Orange network across the board as confirmed even in this thread. In short, I consider this the most elaborate rip off in Uganda in recent history with the exception of the lottery scam or the pyramid schemes that we have seen here in previous years. And I believe all telecoms are part of it
