Has anyone watched Pleasantville? Just watched it again last night and the parallels between this movie and the whole debacle thats unfolding around the proposed Whangarei Hundertvasser & Maori Art Centre is just too weird lol! The story revolves around a black & white 50s TV series about a town that thinks its 2 streets and the same pleasant stuff happening day after day is reality… until a couple of modern day kids fall into it. Something familiar about the irrational extremes that the black & white resistance to change and colour go to, as the fabric of their reality starts to come apart. In Pleasantville, the final showdown between colour/creativity/art & the black & white brigade, happens in the towns chamber of commerce lol, with exactly the same kind of dynamics between the protagonists & antagonists as were going down in the Whangarei District Council chambers on Wednesday :-D. When will we be free of those who are still so attached to Whangarei staying a nice safe black & white backwater with some shades of grey, none of that colourful, unfathomable Hundertvasser stuff, thank you very much!
