Has anyone, ( well, I know many have) been to the Winchester mansion in San Jose CA. It is a village, yet one house. It covers a vast amount of land, several acres I think. It is all connected, you can get to any room some way . But there are many false starts, doors that open into nothing , or into lath and plaster . Stairs that go up and down like a hundred steps to end up 3 steps higher than one started . Other stairs that just go up to the ceiling. Many ,many things which would cause a person to get lost. It was built by the widow of Charles Winchester , the designer and manufacturer of the Winchester repeating rifle. The first rifle to fire more than one round at a time without reloading. Mr. Winchester and his young daughter were killed in a carriage accident,back in the day. His wife, the only surviving member of the family, was ( she believed) being haunted by every soul killed by her husbands rifle ( still available today) . She was told by a physic that if she slept in a different room every night these ghosts could not find her, as often. So she kept construction crews working for the rest of her life. And included in the design all kinds of tricks and traps. Still she just could not hide from the hundreds of thousands of souls searching the halls and rooms for her. Woooooo, but ...trueooooo!
