Has someone in San Diegos City Council, been bought out by the Big Box Grocery Stores? Seems to be the case for City Council member Sherri Lightner. She is pushing for a ridiculous City Ordinance, which would outlaw plastic bags at grocery and convenience stores and would require that you pay a tax on paper bags. But the audacity doesnt end there. Oh no... The millions of dollars this Bag Tax will generate will NOT go to the City or County, but into the Corporate pockets of stores like Ralphs, Vons and Albertsons. Instead of using the tax money for needed projects like Urban Development or City beautification, it goes into the pockets of those price gauging stores, to fatten their wallets even more. Since when was it OK to impose another tax on the residents, without any Public input or say in the matter? And since when were City tax dollars collected, and then allocated to Corporations that already make millions to begin with? All Californians should keep an eye on this, because this could become a trend Statewide. All of this is being done in the name of the Environment. Thats right..... The money hungry Corporations and your City Council member Sherri Lightner, is doing this to “save the environment”. Thats funny, because according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, plastic bags make up less than half of 1% of the waste stream. Your options....... pay 10 cents per paper bag.... OR ….. Purchase a more expensive reusable bag, that was made in China using oil, and is imported to the U.S. by the millions each year. I guess we will pad the wallets of the Foresting Industry as well, considering we will need plenty more paper for those bags. Sounds like a plan to me..... NOT !! SAN DIEGO CITY ( DISTRICT 1) RESIDENTS, DO NOT NEED ANOTHER USELESS TAX !! Instead of wasting time schmoozing up to the Corporations, maybe our City Council members need to talk to the people they work for..... THE CITIZENS OF SAN DIEGO !! Quit caving in to Corporate pressure, and do something meaningful for our City. Perhaps try finding a solution to the Homeless that plague our streets, or find ways to improve our Police and Fire Departments. JOIN VETERANS PARTY OF AMERICA, IN STANDING UP FOR THE CITIZENS OF SAN DIEGO (DISTRICT 1) !! WE WILL NOT TOLERATE THIS SORT OF GOVERNING FROM OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS!!
