Has this ever happend to you, our musician friends?..This isnt every promoter mind you, weve worked with many awesome people and promoters...BUTTTTTTT PLEASE -> These are things for bands watch out for: ☠ The pay-to-play company goes out of their way to mention many times over that they are not. No legitimate booking company or club should have to make you pay-to-play.These often one-or-two-man operations are constantly doing damage control on blogs and message boards, trying to defend themselves against unhappy musicians. A representative keeps a detailed tally of who came to see which band either by asking at the door or counting hands. Unfortunately bigger bands want some type of large guarantee, but these bigger bands should also be able to draw the larger crowds for the type of money some of them ask for.The pay-to-play company often works with new or inexperienced local bands to try to help generate the money the bigger band is asking for.Too many bands on the bill, a mismatched lineup of acts, forced to use a unknown backline, short set times, admission higher than normal, and an audience that may not stay for the whole show. They only do online posts and don’t print physical flyers for the shows, no print ads in the local music papers, barely any mention of it on the free local concert calendars. The only promotion is done by (some of) the bands. The club might list it on their website. Because YOUR doing most of the footwork. And if the show doesn’t turn out well because the headliner might not draw YOU might get the blame for not working hard enough, or possibly be labeled difficult to work with because of the mismanaged gig. In addition, pay-to-play promoters will always stress what a big favor they do for bands, how much they are sacrificing to help you obtain success, how they are the ones who’s only unselfish goal is to “help other musicians”. The bands provide the music and push the propaganda..all we ask for is a little respect and honesty. We do this for the love for music... ;)
