Has this ever happened to you, you know when you are being looked - TopicsExpress

Has this ever happened to you, you know when you are being looked at by hundreds of bystanders and your toddler decides to have a hissy- fit! It is an unforgettable experience, one where time stands still and everyone one else around you stands still to watch your disgruntled face standing still! You feel a gush of pulse swishing through your temples as your eyebrows rise to meet your hairline. Your life starts flashing in front of you and you can almost see the sweat beads forming on the tip of your nose. All you want to do is dig that hole and bury either yourself or your toddler just long enough until the storm rolls over! This amazing phenomenon seems to occur when my wife is either using the powder room or doing the milking for the baby, and I am left with the screamer. The embarrassment came the other day while we were doing a spot of shopping, eating and walking. But since we have had the two girls, between those three words are, dirty nappy, wee wee nappy and clean nappy times! So as you can imagine, we frequent the babys change room quite often. As most parents would know, to get into the room, you must press a button. This automatically opens the sliding door and you are in the most sought after place for a successful nappy change. I forgot that our eldest daughters highlight of the change room visit is not the little playground it offers, or the nice cartoons on the TV or even the mirrors, whoops that is me, haha! Her most favourite thing is to hit that button to open the slide door! Each time she gets so prepared for it! She measures up the distance as she needs to go on tipi- toes to reach it. She uses pin-point accuracy to ensure she hits it first time every time! Well silly daddy forgot it was her nap time and she was getting grizzly and a quick in and out of the change room would see her sleep in a nice dry nappy. Not thinking, I hit the button of the slide door, and boy, do I wish I never let that happen! We started to enter the room, and I looked to see why Madison was not following. I turned and froze as I saw her mouth fully open, eyes shut and bottom lip quivering. You know that cry when they have taken a massive breath and they are riding on the last drop of oxygen to belt out the most gigantic cry you have ever heard? Well that is what came out! Her whole body started to shake and the noise pollution just kept on going and going like a dying cow (whatever that sounds like!) Tears were gushing down her face and I could see the other parents looking down their noses and prejudging in their minds. I quickly tried to rectify the problem and brought her close to the button for her to fulfil her wish, but no, she wouldnt have a bar of it. At this point my wife was busy with Amber and I was left in charge of Madi! She just wouldnt stop so I had to take her out and walk her around the shop until her siren turned off. She finally calmed and we went to meet mummy in the change room. So I thought let us have another crack at the button. Madi saw the door, started to smile again as she went straight for the button. She measured the height, went on tipi- toes and with pin-point accuracy was just about to press the button, when some mother pressed the button coming from the inside of the change room unknowingly beating my daughter to the button. I just looked at my daughter as she glared back at me with the best death stare a toddler could make. I was about to say good press to cover it all up, but I knew that she knew that I knew that door didnt slide with her press! To prevent eating into your time by you reading this rubbish, I will let you figure out the rest of the story and the time it took to calm her down the second time! Oh boy! I will never over step my boundary as father again! It is too painful and deafening! Wink!
