Hate to say it, but I feel that this is good for Bryce Harper and the Washington Nationals. Unlike Mike Trout who had to shock the world from a non baseball loving environment, only injury has stopped Bryces march to greatness. It looked like the light went on during the second half and the playoffs. Bryce showed up where Adam LaRoche and Jayson Werth went missing. But now, hes been humbled by a very public and potentially humiliating diss by a woman. Who knows why this happened? I dont care, and I respect his privacy. I hope the Reliable Source and the gossip and the TMZ folks will leave this vulnerable kid alone. Bryce could be a Mickey Mantle or a Derek Jeter. Or he could be a jerk like Michael Jordan or Barry Bonds. Id much rather see him be a skilled media player like Jeter who is universally loved but a playboy on the side than a married jerk who cares little for his fans. Bryce, Kaylan Varner is not going to love you. Nationals fans want to love you, but they dont want to hear you cursing in Spring Training in front of seniors in kids during a relatively meaningless game. Get your work. Start slow or start fast. Stay healthy. Get in the playoffs, and mash when it counts most in October and win the World Series for Drew Storen, Ian Desmond, Jordan Zimmermann, and most importantly Ryan Zimmerman that shows what a band of brothers that commits to a goal can win.
