Hauled my trailer to Pojoaque today for its annual wellness check. Thats about 1/2 hour drive from the barn. Just as I was pulling away from the barn, I noticed a beautiful big spider struggling across a web it had built between the passenger side mirror and window. I stopped the truck so it didnt have to fight the wind so much and it scurried over to the mirror, tucked in all its legs and hunkered down for the ride. 3 hours later, my trailers dropped off, Ive done some shopping in town, arrived back home and the poor critter is still hiding on my mirror frame. So I got a wooden spoon and a plastic bucket, hoping to gently help her move to a more appropriate spot on my property. Seeing how fast she climbed up the spoon, I am glad it had a LONG handle! Then she literally flew off the spoon into railroad ties that I have on the side of my driveway. Anyone know what she is? Im thinking maybe an Orb Weaver? Her abdomen was easily the size of my thumbnail, if not a little bigger. She was GORGEOUS. Sorry the video is a little shaky, I was holding my iPhone camera, the wooden spoon and the plastic bucket all at once and it was a little hard to manage. Anyway, shes better off on the RR ties. Hopefully shell find a quieter spot to spin a new web.
