Haunted House Entry #6 - The Choice. Ariel was finally out of the room and she felt her air return to her lungs. Her injuries were becoming more severe as the minutes passed. She had thousands of tiny paper cuts across every inch of her skin. Covered head to toe in her own vomit and blood made it hard to move in her clothing without scraping some sort of wound right back open. Her hair was tied atop her head, jacket around her waist and feet sore from running and walking over the horrid halls of the haunted home. Two gaping holes were in her body, one in her palm of her left hand, and the thigh of the same side, the wounds still freshly oozing as she limped towards her next hope at an escape. Just as she reached the handle of another room she paused, the faint glint of copper catching her eye just down the hall. Turning her head slowly in the direction of the flashing metal, she spot a key lodged into an extremely old oak door, cobwebs lining its surface and latching it to the door. It was a wonder she hadnt seen it before, but it had been well covered. Limping closer she grunted before blowing over the webs, watching them drift to the floor as her free hand lifted to touch the key. The shape of it made it clear that it was the key to her escape, and her survival; The Skeleton Key. She never needed a key again. Sighing and clutching the wrought copper to her chest she heard the faintest of noises downstairs. Help... Me. Ariel paused and gulped back her fear, wondering if it was something luring her closer so that she could never leave. Now that she had the escape key, she could leave. Run for that first door and go right out onto the porch, back to her car in the drive and fight through the rain that had forced her inside. She didnt care where the road took her, as long as it was far from here. Is somebody there? The voice sounded soft, and in need, coming from behind the intricate oak door that surely led to a lower floor, or so the voice made it seem. Ariels body and mind fought her instincts to stay. She couldnt just leave whoever it was downstairs - it would be unorthodox, and how could she live with herself? Huffing she looked back down the hallway, knowing if she darted through each room she could unlock everything she needed and just leave. Just. Leave. Help... Me... The voice sounded further, fading. The choice was hers. Stay and help, or run and be free. Closing her eyes she shoved the key back into the keyhole and whipped back the door on its hinges. Looks like she was going to be the hero.
