With features romantic and comedic at the same time, the work is characterized by strong color patriotic.For these reasons, it was also popular among the Polish public and banned by the Russian authorities (opera was founded in the period of the partitions). Polish Prime Minister turned into a great patriotic demonstration. Opera written after the fall of the January Uprising is a great patriotic manifesto.The world premiere took place in Warsaw on September 28, 1865 The work is considered to be the best opera Moniuszko and also the best of this type of song Polish nineteenth century.
