Have I gone mad or have the price of things gone mad? When we go - TopicsExpress

Have I gone mad or have the price of things gone mad? When we go food shopping everything is slightly under five dollars. Servicing your car is a joke. Real estate is demented. Doctors are out of reach. The best Doctors money can buy want it in cash. Obama care stinks. I can remember when I was a very small boy there was a TV show called The 64,000 Dollar Question. It was a game show where you could win up to 64,000 dollars. I can remember my family watching this show and saying what they would do with this kind of dough. They would by a house on the water in Freeport, Long Island. A new car, go to Europe, pay for our collage and buy a new living room set as well as a 12 inch television set. The rest they would put in the bank. Today that amount of money buys my car and zero left over. Yes, they made around 25 thousand a year in salary and things were in proportion back then. A Dad could go to work and bring home enough money to support his wife who ran his home. Women did not have to work then. We always had new cloths and new shoes or sneakers. We went to Lake Sabago, NY on the weekend and we swam in the lake and we thought of it as our country club.. We brought all the food and cooked it on the open fire. That food by the way was not hot dogs and hamburger it was Italian red sauce cooked with meat balls and spare ribs as well as veal in it. They roasted chicken on the grill and we has veggies and salad and all kinds of cakes and cookies. We set a table like no others. I can still remember one time when we went it had rained very early that morning. The hill where our table was, was wet. My Mothers best friend Millie was carrying a huge pot of red sauce from her station wagon car to be put on the fire grill down that hill. She slipped on the wet ground and up into the air went the two gallons of red sauce and all over all of us. She was covered from head to toe. We laughed and then got hit for laughing at her. Remember those shots in the head we got. Back then we made less money but we lived better lives. Today life is full of worry. We have to much and it costs to much. A simple life is the better life. I wish I could live a simple life and so do so many of you. We cant, we are victims of the times.
