Have You Ever Seen a Beach House Floating Down the Intracoastal? The North Carolina Coastal Federation- a local nonprofit focused exclusively on coastal issues- is moving a historic home on the intracoastal waterway tomorrow, Wednesday, June 19, between 3:30 and 5:30 pm. The Palmgren-O’Quinn house will be moved on a barge from Banks Channel to the Wrightsville Beach town square (next to the Museum on Salisbury Street) and renovated into a regional environmental education center and new federation office. You can watch the move at Fish House Grill, Bridgetender or Bluewater Grill, which are donating 10% of their revenues to Coastal Federation This will mark the culmination of the federation’s long-term plan to establish three permanent offices along the coast showcasing their work in education, habitat restoration, and advocacy. Once completed, the education center at Wrightsville Beach will be a community space – available for community meetings, speakers, and educational opportunities. You can check on the status of the move as well as the latest special discounts being offered by local businesses (including a champagne toast at Bluewater!). Go to nccoast.org and click the "Moving Day" picture on the right.
