Have all of you been following the Empire State Building saga? If you havent -- you should be. The Empire State Building has DENIED our application and big push from the Childhood Cancer Community to to light up GOLD in observance of children with cancer. All we asked for is just one day this September during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and theyve turned us down. Please keep in mind that they have zillions of different colored light bulbs installed within the Empire State Building so that throughout the year they can light the top of the building up in support of many different causes. They have made a very devastating and offensive decision to not Go Gold for kids. Apparently, lighting the building green recently to promote the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, and going blue to support the Democratic Party -- is all more important to them then the lives of babies, children and teens. The kids cancer community has been understandably in an outrage over this recent decision and even some city councilmen have begun to speak up about it. Media has gotten involved this past week (which is always a plus for awareness no matter the outcome!) to bring attention to this unfair decision by the Empire State Building that no one understands. Please get involved with us in taking a stand for kids on this issue! September is right around the corner and its National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This is the kind of thing our community of advocates is up against when it comes to awareness. Not enough people give a damn. And many people think that if a place promotes the color pink in October for breast cancer -- that that is suffice to spreading awareness of all cancers. Couldnt be more further from the truth! The general public just does NOT know how prevalent and how serious the issue of kids cancers are. And its not due to lack of effort by any means. We as a community unite and fight so hard to bring awareness to the color GOLD out there in the public. But we NEED as many voices as possible to help us spread the word. And as many PEOPLE as possible, raising some hell about it. The lives of children should never take a backseat when it comes to priority in this country.
