Have been feeding raw for 3 years. Mostly BARF due to the # of dogs and availability of food. One of my dogs ate a bone without chewing it and had to have it removed from her small intestine(she did this before with the end of a tug toy - this was her second surgery). OK, so I goofed and gave her too small of a bone that she didnt chew up. My question comes about with the Vets post-op instructions. He wants her on a bland diet of cooked rice and meat, 4:1. And no raw food. That does not bode well with me. I can understand no bone to fragment right now, but if the meat/bone is ground, wouldnt that make more sense? I hate to go against veterinary advice, and would like to hear if anybody else has had experience with this. It seems that switching to a high carb diet would impede her healing. ????
