Have had an ancient Kirby vacuum for years. Inherited it from a relative. The thing looks older than me. Its heavy as hell. It worked like a dream for the five years I have lived in this house. Then it seemed to lose suction. For some reason I totally spaced and forgot I knew how to fix it. Five years ago I watched a Youtube video on how to change a belt on a Kirby and had immense success with it! Anyway, spaced on that and thought the thing had bit the dust so I dropped 90 bucks on a cheap Bissel at 10pm one night on a mad dash to Walmart. The damn Bissell isnt even a month old and already seems to be broken. I dup up that old Youtube video on my Kirby, ended up fixing a simple slipped belt, and now my Kirby is again working better than any other vacuum Ive ever had. Working on that vacuum gives me an appreciation for old machinery. A few basic simple parts that are made to last and easy to change, remove, replace. The new vacuum has five billion screws, a bunch of cheap plastic pieces, and I hate it. Im now officially one of those old people that complains about how nothing is built to last these days.
