Have had such a good day today. I woke up @ 4, read some email, played some games, watched an episode of Vikings, drifted off back to sleep listening to the radio. Up about 9 and the Mr was off taking Brat Girl to the park. While he was gone got a phone call from some little voices from San Diego singing Happy Birthday Gma! and then Rachel and Bob were so very patient as they tried to long distance teach me how to Skype w my Kindle! It was so much fun seeing the grands. The Mr came home and put a fair sized box on my chair and it had a lot of plain paper wrapped goods in it. I opened one and it was a chimney to an oil lamp...it was so much fun to open the presents where the grands could see that we went to the dining room and opened all the pieces there. The Mr got me three new oil lamps! Oh my goodness - were gonna need more shelves! Two of them have the same bases, but they arent twin lamps. He got them at separate places and one of them has a replaced wick recr, but the other one has what looks to be the original. I havent checked the furls yet to see what brand they are...a way of sorta doing an age date on the lamps. The 3rd lamp he got is smaller, but it is a brass lamp that is a little sibling of the brass lamp he brought me from his sisters house when she passed away. Cathy would appreciate these lamps so, her and I used to haunt the thrift stores and antique shops trying to find new old oil lamps. I dont collect fancy lamps, just the ones that were workday lamps that provided the light for a mother to check on a baby, or a gma to read her bible. Maybe a pioneer wife put one of these lamps in a window to help her farmer or rancher Mr find his way back to her. What history these lamps could tell us! I think my collection is up to 25 now.
