Have just been doing a quick calculation of nursery costs...its mind-blowing! Before you complain about the cost of a bird handraised from egg...this is roughly my costs so far: Boxes tissues x20=$40,Blue underpads =$90, syringes of multiple sizes=$200, Formula =$1,000 40 litres Demineralised water = $40, surgical hand-scrub $85, Materials (liners and face washers)..$90, Sterilising solution $22, F10 disinfectant $200...all will need repleneshing long before the breeding season is over! Thats before daily washing costs, brooders that costs $1000s, Incubators costing $5,000 each, egg monitors x2 =$900, a purpose built nursery, power costs, split-level air con (new)! To raise from egg..all are necessities! A hand-raised baby from egg = lots of work and lots of costs! When you consider hourly rate for 24/7 care and 2 hourly feeding regimes of at least a week for each baby...they are so damn cheap!!!!
