Have largely avoided writing about any personal efforts on behalf of the less fortunate for awhile now. True, a lot of folks read the account of my encounter with homeless ex-con Bobby about this time last year after my onetime suburban church issued a challenge and to back it up gave us some cash to go out and make a difference in the streets. After two meals with him, Bobby seemingly disappeared from the Near North area, hopefully back to the family member with whom hed been staying before he started hiding out in abandoned West Side buildings. I hope hes not back inside; somehow I feel like hes getting by although his attempts to find honest work at the time were hampered by his lengthy rap sheet. To dispel any thoughts of pending sainthood for yours truly, I did not keep in touch with Bobby, a onetime violent offender. At the time I had a house in the burbs with two car garage, cats and a wife. Thats all but gone now and Im back in the city, really only a missed paycheck or two away from street myself. At the time, I was mildly tweaked here for being a liberal do gooder; one potential friend said she didnt want to be one of my projects. However, I met someone recently whose daily journey inspired my help and when I get a few more spare moments, I will share a few things Ive learned this time around....
