Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; - TopicsExpress

Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. 1 Timothy 4:7 NIV Like some of my other friends, my heart is heavy too. I’m trying to process what truth is after a rough ending to my day yesterday. I saw a tree on the side of road that would fit the bill for how my heart feels this morning. This tree on the side of the road was chopped off at the top – probably from a thunderstorm, strong winds or lightning. At any rate it was broken and bare where once there were branches spreading their arms. I feel duped and I’m not sure what to do next, I was misled about things that happen in the supernatural realm of God. The only choice I have is go back to what I know is real and true, the Word of God. You’ve been raised on the message of the faith and have followed sound teaching. Now pass on this counsel to the followers of Jesus there, and you’ll be a good servant of Jesus. Stay clear of silly stories that get dressed up as religion. Paul is the author of the book of Timothy and he would have Timothy instill in the minds of Christians to be growing, ever increasing in knowledge of the word so they wouldn’t be seduced or misled by Judaizing teachers – the teachers who were teaching Christians to trust in Jesus plus keep the Jewish laws and customs. Some of the Jewish teachings revolved around wives tales and superstition. In this passage we learn that how important it is to exercise daily in God—no spiritual flabbiness, please! Workouts in the gymnasium are useful, but a disciplined life in God is far more so, making you fit both today and forever. While the Judaizers were and still are teaching Jewish customs, old wives tales and superstition, Paul wanted Christians everywhere to focus on the sound teaching of the Word. We have to remember the forces of evil in this world. Our Enemy is out to destroy you and me. We must know God’s truth. We must throw out superstitions like those about black cats, announcing a baby’s birth after 3 months, and other old wives tales. We have to discard those and focus on God’s truth. Our motto is this: We Trust in the Living God! You can count on this. Take it to heart. This is why we’ve thrown ourselves into this venture so totally. We’re banking on the living God, Savior of all men and women, especially believers.
