Have to share this. Last weekend I attended the Queensland Labor conference in the morning when Tanya spoke. Please check it out on the link. Ill declare I am a massive Tanya fan = shes intelligent, witty and down-to-earth. And a great leader. I think Megan Hinchliffe and I got a bit teary when she was talking about her higher educational opportunities -- I think its because we could relate. Honestly, without the reforms of the Whitlam Labor Government opening up higher education to people whose families would not have been able to afford it - I would not have attended university. Educational opportunities are so important - not just for the individual but for our nation. A strong education system where people can be supported to achieve their very best, regardless of socio-economic background, gender or cultural heritage is vital. If we may higher education unaffordable and lock out people with potential, we may lose people who may make great contributions. Im worried about the Abbott Governments plans to increase the costs of higher education - and reducing funding to schools. These decisions will not only have an impact now but into the future as well.
