Have you ever been driving and suddenly someone pulls right in front of you, a near accident occurs, and unbelievably they are yelling and angry with you? Or have you been at work and your boss and/or a customer gets angry with you for something that had nothing to do with you? These are examples of the Garbage Truck metaphor. Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they look for a place to dump it. And if you accept it, they’ll dump it on you. So when someone wants to dump on you, don’t take it personally. After all, it has nothing to do with you. So just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. This way your load remains light and you are not weighed down with the unwanted garbage of others.
