Have you ever done something without fully understanding why you were doing it? Im not just referring to automated, mindless activities and habits. Quite the contrary, it may be something you really want to do but, without a good, logical reason for doing it, its very difficult to stick to it. For many spiritual people, the experiences that come from a deep meditation are very inspiring. In some cases, those experiences motivate them to venture even further down the proverbial rabbit hole. The problem is, they simply experience and enjoy the light show without ever bothering to reflect on their reason for doing it in the first place. Without the reason, the brain sees no point in continuing. You begin to perceive your meditations as just another chore. It only makes sense to tell it why you want it to quiet down for 20 minutes. By giving it a reason, its more likely to obey and it becomes easier to stick to regular meditations. For many spiritual people, one of the reasons why we meditate is simply because we enjoy it. Have you ever tasted a really delicious cake? More than likely, after that first taste, you wanted more, right? Well, spirituality is like that delicious cake and the first taste is like your first spiritual experience. You have to make it clear to your brain that your doing this because you enjoy it. Acknowledge that enjoyment as your reason and, like the first taste of that cake, savor it.
