Have you ever envied someone who seemed to have it all without - TopicsExpress

Have you ever envied someone who seemed to have it all without God? Be honest. Not only was everything in their life seemingly perfect…success, prosperity, relationships…but they also had none of the restrictions demanded of those who follow Jesus and His commands. I hate it, but I have. Im so thankful that God hasnt hidden the reality that Im not alone. Its an encouragement to know that godly people in the past, those God used to pen the Scriptures, have struggled with the same thing. Psalm 73:2-3, 13, 16-17 - But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold. For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked…Surely in vain have I kept my heart pure; in vain have I washed my hands in innocence…When I tried to understand all this, it was oppressive to me till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny. To be human is to, at times, get lost in the idea that “the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.” The reason…we have limited perspective. We can only see whats happening on the outside. We cant see the struggles or emptiness that exists on the inside. As well, we can only see the moment. We cant see into the future…into eternity. This is where Gods Word comes in. God doesnt have a perspective problem. He sees inside and out. He sees beginning from end. And, He has shared the reality of what He sees in His Word. When we look and listen to Him…when were worshiping and lifting Him up in our lives…we will have the right perspective. There is no such thing as prosperity, success, genuine happiness, or a life to be envied without Him. When we fail to look to Him, we lose perspective. Its a dangerous place to be. I love how the Psalmist says it above. I had almost slipped…lost perspective in a dangerous way…until I entered the sanctuary of God…until I took the time to be in His presence…to look and listen to Him. How long has it been for you?
