Have you ever experienced that weird feeling when you hear a song - TopicsExpress

Have you ever experienced that weird feeling when you hear a song or see a movie and feel like they wrote that based on your life? Its easy to compare yourselves to the media surrounding us and can be comforting to know you arent the only one with these thoughts in your head. Well the writers of Disneys Lilo and Stitch may have had someone elses memory in mind for their little blue character but in our field Im sure many of you will see the similarities we face when it comes to our pint sized pups. Here at our shelter we have our own Stitch who could easily take the place of the animated version in a real life remake of the movie. Our 3 yr old neutered male may not be blue but his black and tan markings are even cuter. Both versions have entered in to a world that is new, scary, and unknown to them. Rather than play it cool they want to remain safe by keeping defenses on high alert! Neither has experienced how a true family cares for each other but with some persuading they can be won over. Itd be nice if people in the real world lived by Disneys movie theme of Ohana (family). As Lilo explains Family means no one gets left behind. But in our Stitchs case he hasnt yet discovered a family that wont leave him behind. Our little boy has had trouble letting go of his fear as loud noises and quick maneuvers cripples his body in to a tiny ball as he searches for a retreat. If he feels cornered or taken by surprise he at times will resort to nipping in a desperate attempt to flee from the scary situation. At the moment he has 2 incidents where he was compelled to act on this method. His first bite occurred as he was happily being held by a caring volunteer during a walk one day when an inconsiderate passerby honked their car horn at them sending a wave of panic through his mind. Though he didnt mean to hurt his human friend he accidentely nicked her finger. The second time was at his newly adopted home that sadly lasted less than a month. Though we explained to the adopter to take it slow and give him time to acclimate his adopters may have went too fast with him. Stitch bonded with the owners son but was cautious with other family members. The day he was returned the owner went to pick him up too quickly despite Stitchs warnings forcing him in to a position of using his defenses and biting his hand. When you give Stitch time to trust you and move at his pace youll see that he is quite fond of belly rubs and has an inner playful bounce just waiting to come out. He is happy to trot alongside you on a leash and seems to enjoy sunny strolls. He also does well with other dogs and at times shares his kennel with them to keep each other company. Heres a little video for you to take a peek at how adorable he is. Hes a bit camera shy so ignore my baby talking :) youtu.be/GMN8n3S6TiQ We are hoping our boys story will end in the same manner as the movie. Just when you think all hope is gone theyre given that extra nudge allowing them to see the life they can achieve when given a chance. Taking things one step at a time Stitch has shown us that he is a lovable boy. Like the movie Lilo taught the rambunctious alien what being in a love filled home is like and was determined to work through their issues. Once our Stitch feels those rewards and dedication youll ignite a spark in his eye and have a permanent best friend for life. In the shelter we are still searching for the right home so we are calling on you to help. Will you be the Lilo to our Stitch? If so please contact me ASAP.
