Have you ever had someone call you by the wrong name? Even though it may seem like a minor mistake, it bothers us, because great meaning and significance—and even power—is held in a name. This is true, and even more so with the name of God. In the same way that you give your name when you introduce yourself to someone, so God has told us His name. He told Moses that His name is YHWH, which means in Hebrew I AM WHO I AM and is written in the Bible as LORD. Because Gods given name reveals who He is, it holds great power—even the power to save. The Bible says, Whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved (Romans 10:13). Gods name is also a source of help. The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are set on high (Proverbs 18:10). Here are some of the names of God found in the Bible.
